Electrical Contractors

Licensed trades responsible for safe, code-compliant power in homes, businesses, and outbuildings.

01

What They Do

Electrical contractors install, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair wiring, panels, services, lighting, and controls. Scope ranges from a single circuit or fixture to full commercial and industrial systems, generator and standby power, and service upgrades.

Electrical work is permitted and inspected in most jurisdictions, and is performed by licensed electricians under state licensing rules.

02

When You May Need One

  • An inspection flags panel, grounding, or wiring concerns
  • A remodel, addition, or shop building adds electrical load
  • You need a service or panel upgrade
  • Adding a generator, well pump, EV charger, or heavy equipment circuit
  • Commercial tenant improvements or lighting and control changes

03

Questions to Ask

  • Are you licensed in this state, and who will perform the work on site?
  • Will this scope require a permit and inspection?
  • Is the existing service adequate for the added load?
  • Have you worked on properties of this age and wiring type?
  • What is your response time for service calls or emergencies?
  • How is the work warrantied?

04

Common Misconceptions

"Old wiring is fine if nothing has failed." Aluminum branch wiring, ungrounded circuits, and certain panels are known risk items regardless of symptoms.

"Any electrician can do commercial work." Commercial and industrial systems require different experience and often different licensing tiers.

"Small jobs never need permits." Many jurisdictions require permits for panel, service, and circuit work.
